About
The Engineering Faculty with approximately 2700 undergraduate, 200 graduate students and 184 teaching and research staff is one of the largest in the Eastern Mediterranean University and the Region.

EDUCATION
The basic philosophy of the Faculty of Engineering is to deliver a sound engineering education both at undergraduate and graduate levels for the purposes providing our graduates with a background which will enable them to carry out high quality engineering work.

In the light of this philosophy, we give prime importance to undergraduate curricula which aims at:

1. Life-long learning

2. Giving sound background on the basics of engineering

3. Allowing for easy implementation of interdisciplinary work

4. Providing the structure necessary for adaptation to globalization trends in education (i.e. distance learning)

5. Allowing a dynamic structure for each program to follow and integrate new developments in its particular engineering discipline.

To comply with these aims Departments in Engineering Faculty makes revisions on their curricula periodically. Another strong side of our curricula is that almost each course has a laboratory session associated with it.

The EMU Faculty of Engineering has already applied to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for obtaining accreditation for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering undergraduate programs.

RESEARCH
Our laboratory facilities in the Faculty of Engineering are quite good. We have an annual budget of circa U.S. $600,000 which is used in acquiring new computers and various lab equipment. There are more than 800 Pentium-based PCs with a ratio of one PC for every four students.

Currently our faculty from Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering Departments are pursuing research projects funded by the Scientific Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

The Department of Computer Engineering was a partner recently, at EU’s INCO-DC program MEDISAT (Mediterranean Science and Technology Information Network) project.

IEEE ACTIVITIES
The Computer Engineering Department hosted the IEEE Turkey Section Office during 1998-99. There is an IEEE Student Branch currently in the EE Department and also an IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter in the Computer Engineering Department, established Summer 1999 which is the first one to be established in Northern Cyprus and Turkey. We have 150 IEEE members in North Cyprus which is enough to form a Section, most of them from EMU Faculty of Engineering. We also have an IEEE Fellow on the campus, our President, Prof.Dr. Ozay ORAL who is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer.
